Batter Up

“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested…” - Romans 3:21

▶︎ LISTEN TO THE DEVOTIONAL

Can you imagine a baseball player who batted one thousand throughout his career, meaning that every time he came to the plate he got a hit? I read that the player with the highest single season average ever was a man named Hugh Duffy in 1896, and his average was just .440.

There are two ways to get into God’s Hall of Faith, to get into Heaven. The first is to have a perfect life, with no errors, and batting one thousand in every area of life. But the Bible clearly states that no individual can do that. So, God provided another way. There is a way to Heaven and to receiving the righteousness of God. How do we get right with God? We put our full weight down on the Lord Jesus Christ. God Himself provides the righteousness we need. So, when God looks upon us, He doesn’t see someone who batted 260, or even 440. He sees Jesus, Our perfect Substitute. That is grace – and that is good news.
